Project Overview

The Sailors Jail website was sitting on a platform that was no longer working adequately for the Client. They came to us for advice around creating a new site on a more robust platform that would allow them a range of new functionality to help improve business functions and processes.

The Challenge

Sailors Jail wanted to move their site onto Shopify and needed a new brand design and pages to upload to this new platform to boost sales and customer satisfaction.

Design and Innovation

The new Sailors Jail brand design and website blends an engaging theme with functional design. When creating the design theme for the site I purposely avoided the typical nautical or maritime theme, which is used so often, instead letting the colour palette and artwork take center stage. This allowed the artists and their work to be the main focus of a visit to the website.

The creative use of animations and transitions, especially when navigating between pages or when hovering over certain elements, adds an interesting dynamic to the site. The site feels playful and engaging, which makes it stand out and adds personality to the brand.

Functionality and Usability

We created easy navigation with clearly marked sections and a straightforward layout. Key sections such as booking, services, and contact details are easy to find. The website’s primary calls to action such as booking or getting more information, are prominently placed, to facilitate an intuitive user journey and optimise conversions.

There was a lot of information to include on the site, so the design is fairly complex, however, the readability, layout and animations detract from this by making the site extremely easy to navigate and the user is confronted with beautiful imagery at each stage to create engagement.

Visual Design and Aesthetics

The visual design of the Sailors Jail website is bohemian and relaxed, utilising a muted, warm and welcoming colour scheme that incorporates green, gold, and cream.

The theme is unique and creative, with a number of visual elements that enhance the brand including the gold star emblem, which creates connotations of excellence and quality as well as a guiding light. The combination of 2 very distinct fonts create a feeling of both playfulness and business formal - perfectly aligning with the brands values.

Overall Experience

The overall experience of the Sailors Jail website is fun, engaging, and unique. The playful design makes the site stand out from other websites, offering a fresh approach to its niche. The website is visually stimulating, and users are likely to remember the fun experience, which is important for brand identity.
